How To Say No Kids

Christy Johnston

Subtle but Stern

While some couples enjoy having the delight of children at their weddings, other couples want to make sure they don’t have to hear cries by kids on their big day. So, how do you politely say “no kids” at your wedding on an invitation? Here are a few options:

  1. Simply add “Adult only event” to your invitation

  2. Make the distinction very clear by setting an age limit if you want to ensure there is no underage drinking with “21 and up event”

  3. Make it about the parents and add “We want our guests to enjoy a night off to themselves, please arrange childcare for children under X years old”

  4. If you’re ok with children attending the ceremony, especially if they are partaking in the procession, you can add “We would love to see your children at our ceremony, but the reception following will be an adult-only event”

  5. Tried and true option of “This invitation is extended to adults only”

  6. Attempt humor with “You know we love your kids, but we also love partying with our friends. Please leave the kids at home and have a few shots with us”

  7. A more subtle message is to write only the adults’ names on the invitation, although this may get lost in translation if not followed up by one of the other tactics above
